Helen Shabetai

Pianist

Helen read music at Oxford, where she was Organ Scholar at Lady Margaret Hall. She spent several years in orchestral management, working for Sir John Eliot Gardiner at the Monteverdi Choir, and as General Manager of the European Union Youth Orchestra. Now living in Welwyn Garden City she teaches piano both at St Albans High School and privately, and spends an increasing amount of time as a piano accompanist. She can’t resist playing lieder and recitals at the Welwyn Garden City Quaker Meeting House have included performing Schubert’s ‘Schwanengesang’ and Vaughan Williams’ ‘Songs of Travel’ with James Gower, Schumann’s ‘Dichterliebe’ with Richard Perry, and Vaughan Williams’ ‘On Wenlock Edge’ with Mark McConnell on. She also works with music teachers on their pupils’ recitals and exams, and accompanies competitions, music courses and local choral societies.
