James Schouten - Baritone
Canadian-born high baritone James Schouten is on the MPerf course at the Royal College of Music under the tutelage of Tim Evans-Jones and Andrew Robinson. James originally trained as a violinist with a keen interest in composition and orchestration. Performed operatic roles to date include: Eisenstein Die Fledermaus, Silvio I Pagliacci, Marcello La Bohème, Demetrius A Midsummer Nights’ Dream, Harlekin Ariadne auf Naxos, Papageno Die Zauberflöte, Escamillo Carmen and Don Giovanni Don Giovanni. Recent contemporary projects include the role of Bear in Lente Verelst's Bear and Friends as part of the 2018 RCM Contemporary Scenes in collaboration with Tête à Tête Festival, Animus in Simone Spagnolo’s ''Even you lights, cannot hear me' - an actor-muso piece for baritone and mezzo-soprano on piano' and as Scarpia, orchestrator and MD in Cavalier's 'Rock Tosca'.
